Since her debut Adele has received much recognition--both commercially and critically. The album 19 debuted at number one, and has been certified platinum in the UK. It has sold 2.2 million worldwide. In 2009, Adele won two Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the single "Chasing Pavements". The week after the Grammy Awards aired, the album finally peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The album peak at number ten on the US Billboard 200, bolstered by an appearance on Saturday Night Live and her Grammy wins. Meanwhile, her single "Chasing Pavements" reached number twenty one on the Billboard Hot 100.
